SUMMARY:Prints\, Patterns & Personal Pages: A Weekend Creativity Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Join artists Kara Ashley-Gilmore and Robyn Crawford for two days of joyful monoprints\, mindful marks\, and a handmade book to hold your discoveries during this creative weekend retreat!  \n  \nPart 1: Gelli Printing \nGelli Plate Printing: A Color‑Splashed Journey Into Play \nWelcome to a morning of joyful mess‑making\, where the rules are few\, the colors are bold\, and your only real job is to let yourself play. In this spirited session\, we’ll dive into the enchanting world of monoprinting—a process where each print is pulled only once\, making every piece a little surprise gift from your creative self. No duplicates\, no perfection\, just pure\, unrepeatable magic. \nWe’ll coax color across the gelli plate\, press in textures from botanicals\, stencils\, and odd little treasures\, and delight in the unexpected patterns that appear. This is art as exploration: a chance to loosen your grip\, follow your curiosity\, and discover what happens when you give yourself permission to experiment without expectations. \nBy the end of the morning\, you’ll have a vibrant stack of one‑of‑a‑kind prints—each one a tiny record of your creative courage and playfulness. These prints will become the raw materials for our afternoon adventure\, where we’ll transform them into something new and uniquely yours. \n  \n \n  \nPart 2: Handmade Book Creation \nIn the first half of our retreat\, you captured textures\, layers\, and colors through the fluid\, experimental process of Gelli printing. Next\, we will take those vibrant prints and give them a physical home. \nDuring the second half of Saturday’s workshop\, we will transform your favorite prints into a structural Accordion Artist Book. We’ll start by finding the rhythm in your prints using paint\, pens\, and markers to add mindful patterns and marks that make the pages uniquely yours. Then\, we move into the engineering phase\, where we tear\, fold\, and join your papers to create a sculptural book that literally stands on its own. \nNo art experience? You’ll love the step-by-step guidance that turns messy prints into a polished\, professional-looking object.  \nSeasoned artist? You’ll enjoy the sophisticated techniques for adding hidden pockets\, secret flaps\, and custom closures that make a book truly interactive. \nThe result is a layered\, three-dimensional companion that can expand to show off your work or fold down into a compact\, private keepsake. It’s the perfect place to hold your ideas\, your marks\, and the memories of our weekend together. \n \nOur Flow: \n\nFriday Evening Gathering\, 5pm-8pm (location provided after registration): Welcome\, intention setting\, and community connection\nSaturday Morning\, 9am-12pm: Gelli printing\, color-play\, and texture exploration\nSaturday Afternoon\, 1pm-4pm: Transforming prints into a custom artist book\nSunday Morning\, 9am-12pm: Open Studio time to polish\, play\, and connect\n\nYour creative reset is waiting. We’ve cleared the schedule so you can clear your head. Whether you’re a lifelong maker or a curious beginner\, come for the prints\, stay for the community\, and leave with a finished book that holds the magic of the whole weekend. \n  \nRegister to join the journey from start to finish! \nRegister for the Weekend Creativity Retreat\nArtist Bios: \n \nKara Ashley-Gilmore believes in the use of our innate creativity for our wellness and healing. SUMMARY:The Therapeutic Art Journal
DESCRIPTION:Date: We meet on the following consecutive Fridays: 9/11\, 9/18\, & 9/25Time: 4 pm – 7 pm \n  \n“A journal is not just a book; it is a laboratory for the soul.” -Bernadine Joyce \nBeneath all our emotions and labels is a complex world of color\, texture\, and rhythm. In this three-day intensive\, we aren’t making masterpieces; we’re making containers. Using a mix of mark-making\, collage\, intuitive painting\, and writing\, you will transform a simple journal into a living document of your own resilience. Whether you are navigating a transition\, processing stress\, or simply looking for a way to belong to yourself again\, this workshop offers a grounded\, creative path back to your center. \nOver the course of three weeks\, we will focus on the three essential functions of a therapeutic art journal: \n1. Emotional Expression\nThe journal is a safe place to discharge. When the nervous system is overwhelmed\, we use the page to externalize what feels too big to carry. \n2. Insight\nArt has a funny way of telling us things our logical brain hasn’t figured out yet. By looking back at the images and patterns we create\, we gain visual evidence of our inner worlds. \n3. Record Keeping\nYour journal becomes a tangible history of your survival and growth. It acts as a “witness” to your process\, allowing you to see how far you’ve come. \n \nLike all art-making\, this Art Therapy Workshop may be therapeutic\, but it is not a substitute for therapy. Privacy in the Art Place Studio classroom is not guaranteed. \nAll supplies will be provided\, including a sketchbook to use as your art journal for this course. Bring your willingness to play\, and your desire to connect and share! \n  \nRegister for The Therapeutic Art Journal\nArtist Bio:\nKara Ashley-Gilmore believes in the use of our innate creativity for our wellness and healing.
